Product Description

What is Hepcinat?

Hepcinat containing the active ingredient sofosbuvir is a nucleotide polymerase inhibitor type of antiviral medication used to treat Hepatitis C. The medication must be used in combination with other antiviral medicines to reduce the amount of hepatitis C virus (HCV) in the body to help the liver recover. Chronic hepatitis C infections can cause serious liver problems such as liver cancer or cirrhosis (scarring). Patients with HIV or liver cancer and are going to have a liver transplant may also use the drug to decrease the risk of reinfection after the transplant.

How is Hepcinat used?

Hepcinat is an orally administered medication taken once per day unless otherwise directed by a doctor. The tablets can be taken with or without food but should be taken at the same time each day. Contact a doctor for the correct dosage and length of treatment as it will depend on the patient's condition and their response to the therapy. The usual length of treatment is usually between 12 to 24 weeks. Do not stop taking other antiviral medications unless otherwise told to do so by a doctor.

Adverse effects

Patients using Hepcinat may encounter unwanted side effects such as:
  • Nausea
  • Diarrhea
  • Headaches
  • Loss of appetite
  • Lower back or side pain
  • Insomnia
  • Fever
